I
came to carving through my husband, as you all know is Phil Bishop. He
had encouraged me for the seven years he had been carving to
give it a try, he thought I would be good at it. We both
had dabbled in drawing and painting since we were kids. The
fact of the matter is it scared me to death, I cut myself slicing
tomatoes but it fascinated me as well. In 1999 Phil was teaching
in MI along with Dave and Michele Stetson and some other instructors. Dave
gave a night class of his little hombre and Michele sat next
to me and helped me get through it. I wouldn’t have
gotten it carved without her. Needless to say I was hooked
forever. As I got more experience and more confidence I
started to help Phil in his seminars a little at a time. Before
long I was a full time carving instructor. I
have entered many competitions and got my butt kicked a lot and
won some too. It has all been a learning experience and
I am still learning. Woodcarving is my and Phil’s
life and it is an honor to have been inducted this year of 2008
into the Caricature Carvers of America.
Vicki
and Phil have an active teaching schedule for 2009, and then
they are retiring off the road. They are available for
classes in their home town of Elk City as of 2010. They
have 40 projects to choose from. Vicki
does not judge exhibits and shows. Her carvings are available
for sale. They can be contacted at:
