Pat Coffey
Pat was introduced to carving in the late 80’s while at a Christmas store in Southern California. In one section there were hand carved Santa’s of all kinds. Alongside them, there were carving kits with resin castings, he was hooked. He purchased a knife and began hacking away at wood. During the 90’s he was active in a few carving clubs on Long Island NY and was able to take some classes from CCA members such as Pete Ortell, Jack Price, Dave Stetson and Pete LeClair.
As with many, life got busy and carving took a back seat to family and career obligations but the love of carving was always there, even if he didn’t carve for months at a time. Upon relocating to North Carolina in 2016 Pat has been able to carve on a consistent basis and continue taking classes. He enjoys both the carving and painting process, and getting a smile or a laugh from what he’s carved is a big payoff. He is the secretary of the Davison County Woodcarvers club and a member of the Charlotte Woodcarvers club. In 2024 Pat began teaching caricature carving and enjoys sharing his love of the art.
Pat lives in Salisbury NC and is a recently retired helicopter pilot who flew for almost 4 decades with organizations such as the United States Marine Corps, Suffolk County Police Dept in NY and Wake Forest Baptist Hospital out of Winston-Salem NC. Pat has been married to his wife, Amy since 1986. They have 2 adult children and 3 grandchildren.
