Jack, author of Carving Compact Characters and 50 Character Patterns for Woodcarvers, was a retired Texas public school administrator who lived in Cleburne, Texas. He began carving in 1975 and specialized in compact figures beginning in 1978. Jack did not believe that “bigger is better,” as most of his carvings were only 2–3 inches in height.

Jack was a founding member of CCA. He also belonged to several woodcarving groups and was a past president of the Texas Woodcarvers Guild.

Jack passed away on December 3, 2024.
