Jerry McNulty’s carving journey began at Scout camp with his son, where he was introduced to woodcarving through a chance encounter with a visiting carver. What started as a shared experience quickly became a lifelong passion for caricature carving, teaching, and sharing the craft with fellow woodcarvers.
A resident of Seguin, Texas, Jerry spent much of his professional career in manufacturing and supply chain management with Caterpillar. While his career centered on solving problems and leading teams, woodcarving provided a creative outlet that eventually grew into a second calling. Over the years, he immersed himself in the carving community, learning from talented artists, participating in clubs and shows, and continually striving to improve his skills.
Today, Jerry is known for his expressive caricatures, engaging demonstrations, and dedication to helping others discover the enjoyment of carving. He regularly teaches at regional and national woodcarving events, where his approachable style and willingness to share knowledge have helped countless carvers build confidence and develop their abilities.
Jerry believes that carving is about more than shaping wood. It is about storytelling, friendship, and preserving a craft that connects people across generations. He is actively involved in the Texas Woodcarvers Guild and the Alamo Area Woodcarvers, where he enjoys encouraging, mentoring, and learning alongside fellow carvers.
Being welcomed into the Caricature Carvers of America is a tremendous honor for Jerry. He views the recognition not as a personal achievement alone, but as a reflection of the many mentors, friends, students, and fellow carvers who have shared in his journey. He remains grateful for their influence and support and looks forward to continuing to carve, teach, and contribute to the art form he loves.
“The best part of carving isn’t the finished piece. It’s the people you meet, the stories you share, and helping someone discover that they can do it too.”
