Terry Moss has been around woodworking for most of his adult life. But it wasn’t until nine years ago when he picked up a copy of Woodcarving Illustrated that things began to change. Terry was so inspired by the artistry that he began to consider a new direction.  He had no idea that these thoughts would change his life.

Terry researched the craft online until he found a carving instructor about thirty minutes from his home.  He began a long series of weekly lessons and very quickly began to assemble a collection of caricature carvings. His skills were enhanced through a number of classes with several CCA members.

Terry joined a local carving club, the Capitol Woodcarvers, in Salem Oregon. He quickly rose through the executive team and currently serves as the Club President.  He also became involved in the administration of the Northwest Carving Academy in Ellensburg Washington.   He serves as the Board President and facilitates the assembly of an annual carving event that draws students from all over the Pacific Northwest.

About four years ago Terry and his wife Bonnie attended a chainsaw carving event.  Terry became enamored with the idea that caricature carving could be combined with chainsaw artistry.  Following a weekend chainsaw class, Terry’s carving journey started down a parallel track.  That track would lead him to an invitation to compete in the semi-pro division of the Oregon Divisional Chainsaw Carving Championships.  Terry has competed at the event over the past two years and is gaining a lot of exposure in the chainsaw carving community.

In 2023 Terry entered some of his work in the annual Caricature Carvers of America, “Carving the Rockies” show in Colorado Springs, Colorado.   His piece titled “Prepare for Departure” received recognition for being 1st place in the Group Mixed category and 2nd Best in Show.  Another piece titled “Camp Robbers” was 1st in the Group Animal category.

Terry and his wife Bonnie have two grown sons. One recently served, and the other is currently serving in the US Air Force.  Terry and Bonnie live just south of Salem in the little town of Turner, Oregon.
