Tom began carving at the age of 12 and became one of America’s most recognized and respected carvers. A resident of West Jefferson, North Carolina, Tom helped thousands of people develop their skills. In addition to teaching, he wrote many books, more than 35 in total. His approach to teaching through his books was straightforward, leading the reader step-by-step through the carving process. His books were well received by both the newest learner and the most seasoned veteran because of the simple methods and the obvious enjoyment Tom brought to his art.

Tom passed away on December 3, 2024.
